Abstract:
The polymerization of 1,4-divinylbenzene (DVB) generally proceeds along with the unwanted addition reaction of propagating chain-end species with the pendant double bond. As a result, highly branching occurs, followed by cross-linking among polymer chains to afford insoluble polymers. Therefore, DVB is usually used as a cross-linking agent, but not considered as a monomer. Very recently, we have first demonstrated that DVB undergoes the living anionic polymerization by the addition of potassium tert-butoxide to afford the polymers with controllable molecular weights (Mn up to 60 500 g/mol) and narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.05).1) Furthermore, novel well-defined block polymers and star-branched polymers having reactive PDVB segments have been successfully synthesized.2-4) Details will be talked at 12/11/2015.
