In order to encourage research on biology and chemistry, with hope to promote research results to enhance new horizons in both the industry and academia, and to contribute to society and mankind, 默克 in Taiwan has specially set up the Young Scientist Award, which will be presented through oral publications and poster competitions. In this year competition, 邱德安 and 古浩銓, guided by Professor Wen-Yueh Yu, won the Honorable Mentioned Award and the Rising Star Award respectively in the green chemistry group of the poster competition.
邱德安's research topic is the development of silver/manganese dioxide catalyst, which removes the incompletely reacted ammonia gas in the current denitration process(NH3-SCR)and converts it into non-toxic and harmless nitrogen gas, thereby reducing haze and PM2.5 and other environmental hazards.
The research topic of 古浩銓 is to develop a copper-palladium/zirconia bimetallic catalyst, which converts a biomass waste derivative product, hydroxymethyl furfural with a liquid organic hydrogen source, into a new generation of biomass fuel, dimethyl base furan, in order to achieve sustainable utilization of biomass resources.
