The 2021 Ministry of Science and Technology Outstanding Research Award was announced recently. Professor Kuo-Lun Tung of the Department won the award, this is the second time Professor Tung has won the award. Professor Tung has been engaged in forward-looking research, talent cultivation and industrial services related to circular economy for more than 20 years. In the first ten years, he conducted research on application of membrane filtration at Chung Yuan Christian University, and participated in the establishment and operation of the membrane technology research and development center of Chung Yuan Christian University. In the second decade, the MAGIC: Membrane-Assisted Green & Innovative Chemical Processes research group was established at National Taiwan University, focusing on the materials and molds required for efficient membrane separation procedures in industrial processes. Group development, research topics cover thin-film process development, thin-film module design, thin-film fouling monitoring, and material discovery. Over the past two decades, Professor Tung focuses on both the basic concepts and practicality. Professor Tung's belief is "Technology World First, Application Taiwan First", he also strengthens industry-university cooperation, implements industrial applications, and creates value with more than 30 well-known domestic and foreign companies with the concept of circular economy; throughout all the research processes, he pays attention to the cultivation of international talents and the improvement of Taiwan's international academic status. Adhering to the belief of "bringing Taiwan to the world and leading the world to Taiwan", Professor Tung worked with well-known Taiwanese scholars to invite world conferences to be held in Taiwan, including the 2016 12th World Filtration Congress, WFC12, the first time it has been held in Taiwan in 40 years, 2022 the 16th International Congress of Inorganic Membranes (ICIM16), the first time it has been held in Taiwan in three decades. In 2021, he will be the first editor-in-chief of the SCI journal Separation & Purification Technology (2020IF: 7.312) in the field of thin film separation. He is also invited to serve as the editorial board members of Journal of Membrane Science (2020IF: 7.312). 8.742), Membranes (2020IF: 4.106), ChemBioEng Reviews (2020IF: 2.927), Desalination and Water Treatment (2020IF: 1.254), Membrane and Water Treatment (2020IF: 0.975), etc., demonstrating the influence of Taiwan in the field of membrane separation (Membrane Separation).
