The presentation reviews our works on the growth of carbon nanotubes
(CNTs) for use as electrode in field emission and super-capacitor.
  The research and development on the synthesis
of CNT in our lab includes the use of novel Fe-Si based catalysts that allow
low-temperature, fast-rate growth of CNTs and further growth enhancement
through a simple reactor design.
  The
discovery of the novel Fe-Si based catalysts was based of up-hill diffusion
theory while the reactor design was based on microwave-matter interaction
theory.
  The innovative reactor allows
the growth of CNTs on metallic substrates at a very fast growth rate that has
never been achieved before.
