Abstract: this presentation will highlight recent
advance within the group on the valorization of renewable carbon feedstock, in
particular chitin and lignin, into value added chemicals and materials. The
essence of these transformations is to harness the valuable functional groups
originally presented in the biomass materials. As such, chitin, which is the
most abundant nitrogen containing polymer, is converted into various chemicals
and materials bearing nitrogen, whereas lignin and cellulose are converted into
aromatic compounds and oxygen containing chemicals, respectively.
