Prof. Moo Been Chang received Ph.D
degree from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests include: (1) Development
of innovative control technology for reducing dioxin emissions, (2) Application
of plasma/catalysis for pollution control and clean energy production, and (3)
Remediation of soil contaminated with chlorinated organics and heavy metals.

Title:Development of Innovative Control Technologies for Reducing POP
Emission

Abstract

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) including
dioxins are toxic chemicals regulated by Stockholm Convention due to their
toxicity to human health and persistence in environment around the world. Hence,
development of effective control technologies to reduce their emission at a
reasonable cost has become an emerging issue. In this presentation, various
innovative control technologies developed at NCU for controlling PCDD/F
emission, including multilayer adsorption, OZCO, nonthermal plasma and
catalytic filtration, will be presented. Furthermore, the advantages and limitations
of applying ACI+BF and catalytic filtration for reducing dioxin emission from
municipal waste incinerators (MWIs) will be compared and discussed.
