2022 World Conference on Photoelectric Energy Conversion (WCPEC-8) and International Photovoltaic Science and Engineering Conference (PVSEC-32) (WCPEC-8/(EU PVSEC/IEEE PVSC/PVSEC-32) were held in Milan on September 26-30 (Milano, Sept. 26-30, 2022), it was announced Professor Chung-Wen Lan won the PVSEC Award (along with Prof. Armin Aberle, Director of the Solar Photovoltaic Research Center, University of Singapore), in recognition of his work in the field of solar photovoltaics, the award ceremony will be held at PVSEC-33 (Nov. 13-17, 2022, Nagoya, Japan). PVSEC Award is an important award of PVSEC, and one well-known winner of PVSEC-31 is Prof. Martin Green; PVSEC started in 1984 and is one of the three major international conferences in the field of photovoltaics. Professor Lan also hosted PVSEC-23 in Taipei in 2013.
Professor Lan founded the Solar Photovoltaic Industry Association in 2007. During his tenure as director of the Solar Photovoltaic Center of ITRI (2007/2-2010/8), he dedicated to the promoting of Taiwan's solar photovoltaic industry. The high-efficiency-polycrystalline (small-grain technology) developed by him and the Sino-US silicon team has a significant impact on the global photovoltaic industry, accounting for 70% of the market in 2017, and has accumulated more than 300 GW so far, this also allowed him to receive the Laudise Prize, the triennial highest honor of the International Crystallization Society. During his tenure as director of the 太電 Center, the double-layer Al2O3/SiNx passivated PERC silicon cell technology published by his team is one of the most widely used structures today. In 2021, Energy Taiwan, SEMI recognized his contribution to Taiwan Solar Optoelectronics and awarded him the first PV Taiwan Award. Recently, he focuses on the research of energy storage materials, and established the National Taiwan University 新創藍星材料 Company, and transferred the 200kg SiO production technology to 碩禾電子, opening a new page for silicon-based anode materials in Taiwan's lithium battery industry. In addition, since 2010, Professor Lan has assisted 台特化 in the transformation of the production of special gases, and started the production of silane in Taiwan. 台特化 has thus become an excellent supplier of TSMC in 2019.
Professor Lan has won numerous awards, including the Outstanding Award of the National Science Society, the 賴再得 Award of the Chemical Engineering Society, the 金開英 Award, the Sino-US Silicon Special Contribution Award, the TECO Award, the Asian Photovoltaic Association Technical Contribution Award, the Taipei University of Science and Technology Outstanding Alumni, Outstanding Talent Lectures, and Green Technology Lectures.
