Each year, the Canadian Academy of Engineering carefully selects a small number of outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of engineering in Canada and globally, to join the prestigious group of Fellows.

This year, Professor L.-S. Fan has been honored with the title of Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering for his exceptional achievements in the field of engineering. His research accomplishments, including six co-authored books and 470 journal articles, as well as his 70 US patents, have had a profound impact on the field of multiphase reaction engineering. His work has led to the development of eight commercially viable clean energy processes and an Electrical-Capacitance-Volume-Tomography instrument. Through his efforts in engineering education and technology transfer within Canada, his research has significantly elevated the technical landscape of clean energy in the country.

Professor L.-S. Fan has received numerous professional accolades, including the highest research honors from the AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers), ACS (American Chemical Society), and major conferences. He is recognized as a top chemical engineering educator in the United States and has been acknowledged for his leadership in the field. Additionally, Professor Fan is one of the "One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era" recognized by the AIChE and a Fellow of six other national academies. It is, therefore, well-deserved that he has been bestowed with the honor of being elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
