Climate change is a global environmental issue that we all face, and the recent 'climate emergency' highlights its urgency. Taiwan is situated in the seismic and monsoon climate zones of the Pacific Rim. With a sensitive and fragile geographical environment, it is prone to multiple natural disasters, including typhoons, earthquakes, floods, droughts, and landslides. Coupled with characteristics such as dense population in limited space and intensive land use, the impact of natural disasters is particularly significant in this region.
"2023 Climate Change Creative Practical Competition" is held to encourage students to unleash their creativity, apply their expertise, and implement actions.
Among the 133 teams participating in the competition, Professor Kuo-Lun Tung, as a distinguished mentor, guided students 周鼎勳, 吳柏均, and 葉佾叡. Their project titled "黃河之水天Sun來" focuses on the water scarcity issues. They developed a low-cost film with photothermal responsiveness, applying it to the seawater desalination process. This innovation transforms seawater into drinking water, offering a potential solution to the water resource crisis. From the 30 finalist teams, their project garnered the approval of the judging committee, securing the "Gold Award" in recognition of their efforts.
