Climate change action is urgent! In addition to actively promoting climate change education, the Ministry of Education has commissioned National Taiwan University to organize the "Climate Change Creative Practical Competition" since November 2015. This competition aims to inspire creativity among university students in responding to climate change and to deepen their ability to take practical climate actions. This year marks the 9th edition of the Ministry of Education's "Climate Change Creative Practical Competition," attracting innovative projects from universities across Taiwan. The entries cover diverse fields such as emerging energy technologies, carbon reduction, plastic reduction, resource recycling/redesign, waste repurposing, disaster prevention, climate change education games, and promotional activities. This year, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture joined the event, offering more rewards to participating teams and enhancing the overall impact of the competition through inter-ministerial cooperation.
Among the participating teams, students Yi-Jui Yeh and 陳劭宇, guided by Distinguished Professor Kuo-Lun Tung, presented a project titled "Sustainable Green Energy and Water Purification." Their work focused on addressing potential water and power shortages due to climate change by developing a cost-effective sponge with photothermal responsiveness for energy production. Their project stood out among the 30 finalist teams, earning the "Honorable Mention" from the Ministry of Education and the "Special Award for Adaptation Capacity Building" from the Climate Change Agency of the Ministry of Environment.
