[Competition] 114 Academic Year Undergraduate Research Competition

I. Objectives

Dr. Terry Chern, an alumnus of the NTU Chemical Engineering Class of 1975, established this scholarship to encourage junior students to actively engage in academic research and chemical product development. The funds support the department in organizing both the Undergraduate Research Competition and the Chemical Product Development Competition.

Additionally, Dr. Cheng-Hsien Tsai, an alumnus of the Class of 1988, established a scholarship to encourage students to pursue undergraduate research and to reward their academic achievements through this competition.

II. Eligibility

  1. Restricted to current undergraduate students who have enrolled in "Senior Project" courses within this department. The core of the research work must have been conducted during the student's period of study at this university. Participants may register individually or as a team, but must provide a detailed list of co-researchers and their respective contributions or work shares.

  2. Focus: This competition serves as a showcase for undergraduate research, emphasizing the "independent completion of preliminary research" and the "clear presentation of results." Even if the research results are not yet fully comprehensive, students are still encouraged to participate.

III. Application Procedures

  1. Registration: From now until March 18, 2026, submit the Application Form (Appendix 1) and the Copyright Authorization Agreement (Appendix 2) to Room N210, Chemical Engineering Building II. These forms are also available at the department office near the poster submission area; students are welcome to register while submitting their end-of-semester posters.

  2. Electronic Submission: Before March 23, 2026, email the electronic files for a 7–10 minute presentation slide deck and the poster to chiench@ntu.edu.tw (The content of the slides should correspond to the competition poster, with minor layout adjustments for the presentation format.)

  3. Poster Display: Prior to the competition, submit and display the physical poster (A0 size, portrait orientation) at a designated time and location (to be announced separately).

IV. Date and Venue

The competition will take place on the afternoon of April 1, 2026, at Chemical Engineering Building II. The event will involve both poster displays and slide presentations, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session with the judges.

V. Judging Committee

The "Undergraduate Research Competition Judging Committee" will consist of at least five experts from academia and industry, invited by the Department Chair and the Student Affairs Committee.
